Since having my beautiful first child born into this world, my face has been, well, aging. Like, rapidly. When you never get to rest or have a full nights sleep (I don’t think I have woken up naturally in 3 years and I don’t see it happening anytime in the near future) your face can take the toll sadly. So last month I looked into the mirror and I was over it. The worst thing you can do about aging is nothing, and that’s exactly what I have been doing because “I’m tired” or “I don’t have time” blah blah blah. Enough is enough, I can’t be an old lady yet. And working day in and day out on beautiful actresses who care for their skin was enough for me to take this problem and reverse it.
So here are some causes and combatants of those terrible crinkly things so we can age gracefully damn it.
Nothing like adding another baby to your family to guarantee you will look 10 years older overnight. Not to mention the fun filled summer that came and went where we all took our fun vacations and our faces got a nice healthy dose of Vitamin D sunshine. Maybe too healthy of a dose. Now the nice tan is fading and all that’s left is some beaten down skin with a few extra crows feet. And maybe like me you’re unable to just sleep yourself back into looking beautiful due to a crazy 6 month old and an energetic toddler. BUT you don’t actually NEED to go spend a few hundred dollars to refresh your face and get back its glow. The key to a successful peel is right in your kitchen, and with a little elbow grease you will be able to do it all yourself! Here are a few fail safe recipes for all skin types that seriously work:
Ladies and gentlemen, I have stumbled upon the most amazing and grossest item in my daily regime and I must share. I was on set last week talking to one of my favorite producers about health and wellness, a subject I am obsessed with in which he knows a lot about. I love picking his brain because he is wise to all the workings of the human body, remedies for illness through diet, everything. So long story short, he shared with me an alarming nugget of wisdom. I found out last year I was Vitamin D deficient,
I am getting eaten alive. Summertime kills me every single year, and I am taking matters into my own hands. Store bought bug repellents are one of the most toxic chemical combinations you can buy to put on your skin. Like, really bad. Like you might as well just smoke a cigarette kind of bad. So I usually go with nothing and get massacred by any and all bugs. It doesn’t help that I am allergic and end up with tumor sized bites all over my body either, so brutal. But I digress. Here is a wonderful bug spray recipe that so far has worked for me and can be used in cream or spray form. If I get bit, I will follow this up with the all mighty powerful and not so great smelling alternative that will blow all the bugs (and husbands) out of the water. In a bad way.
Here is the yummy smelling version for now:
I have found a few products and tricks that I could not live without. Being a Makeup Artist, I get free things sent to me all the time in the hopes that I use them on Celebrity clients. Some are good, some are bad, and some are downright amazing. Some I even find on my own. Here they are.
1. Origins White Tea Anti Aging Facial Moisturizer
I don’t even have enough words to describe the love affair I have with Organic Virgin Cold Pressed Coconut Oil (say that 3 times fast). Wait, I do have enough words and here they are.
Not enough time in the day, yes there is. Not enough money for a gym membership, uh uh. Don’t own any weights or exercise equipment, nerp! Nike Training App is free, awesome, makes me insanely sore and can start you on an easy level and work you up to a master of your own body. So on days where the kids are a handful and you really don’t have time to make it to Pilates or go for that hike, bust this puppy out! Honestly, it will make you feel strong from the inside out again, give you back the muscles you thought were gone forever and actually increase the energy that you once believed had been drained completely by the succubus children. I promise you that even if you don’t feel like it everyday, you will be so glad you did.
*Side-note: The girls who will be training you on your app will have ridiculously impossible bodies which will either motivate you further or really piss you off, either way it’s a win win for an intense workout.
Get it on girl!
Homemade hair masks are the BEST thing you can do if you feel you have dry, lifeless hair. We use masks on our face, we spend tons of money getting our hair dyed and cut, but we neglect the hair aftermath and upkeep. It’s a shame, especially when it’s so easy to do at home and for virtually no money! These masks are SO effective at keeping my extra long locks full of body and moisture. And if you just do it even once a week, maybe before bed while you are watching your favorite show, it is a relaxing and fun way to beautify your look. So, here are a few tips, leading with my favorite recipe.
Organic raw honey
Extra virgin olive oil
Mix this to the consistency you like. Heat this in the microwave and apply from the roots to the tips. The longer you leave it on the better the results. Put you hair in a bun and go about your evening while it works its magic. Your hair will be so much softer and shinier. Here are the benefits of a few more home ingredients that you can incorporate together as well, I always mix and match.
Avocado oil contains: vitamin A, variety of micro elements and fights with dryness of hair.
Olive oil: prevents dandruff, adds shine and softness to hair. Repairs damaged hair and split ends.
Jojoba oil: moisturizes and adds shine to hair.
Flax oil: moisturizes dry, damaged and dyed hair, restores hair structure.
Each morning when you wake, your body has spent the evening rejuvenating and detoxing from the day before. Common sense: drink a ton of water as soon as you wake up, before you eat any food. This flushes all the toxins from your body instead of having them reincorporated, and you can begin your day clear headed and toxin free. At least two 8 ounce glasses. BUT, if you want to step it up a notch, here is what I have been doing and it has had so many immediate benefits that I am forced to write about it here.
There are many many reasons why this is an ultimate weekly face scrub you should be using, and a REALLY easy and REALLY cheap way to have better skin. Here are a few different recipes that I love, starting with the easiest first. These scrubs can all be made with items from your kitchen and are completely natural and chemical free.
There isn’t enough space on this blog to write about the love affair I have with the golden beauty and benefits of raw honey. It is literally the be all end all to living healthy and it is the cure to a million ailments. Not to mention its benefits to weight loss! That’s right people! Firstly, let me just mention that I am specific in saying the word RAW when I talk about honey. I should also mention ORGANIC. The reason for this is because, without going into a long story about it, the bees making honey in a non organic setting are being sprayed with chemicals to fight a natural mite that likes to hang with the bees. They have found that spraying the bees with these mite killing chemicals has not only helped grow the mites stronger, it has made the honey very rich in the chemicals that the bees are sprayed with. In short, by having regular commercial honey from Ralph’s, you are enjoying a huge serving of disgusting and sickening chemicals. Yum. Organic Raw honey on the other hand has more benefits than you can even imagine. And if bought locally, can even cure ailments you may be having due to your surroundings…..
I decided to do a video tutorial because being a makeup artist I get so many people asking how to do a quick makeup, and mine usually takes around 7 minutes or less, so here is what I do from start to finish. I rush along to make the video shorter, but this is basically all about some simple techniques that you can use to create just about any look.
Keeping it real with a new attempt on my chemical free theme this month, I attempted a homemade deodorant. This is a ballsy move, I mean, all humans are bred to use only chemical sticks that actually prevent our glands from sweating (which is really bad for us by the way and can lead to cysts and cancers) not to mention putting aluminum and other hazardous chemicals directly on our lymph nodes. (Sorry for the run on sentence). So as much as I love THE STICK, I made my own deodorant which is kept in a cute jar and is applied like a lotion with my hands in the morning. It sounds weird but I swear to you, I am a brutally honest person and would tell you the truth as to whether or not this is something I would recommend, and I love it so far.
